Micah's first Halloween went well. At first we thought that we weren't going to get any trick-or-treaters, but then they started coming. My personal favorite was the little boy who stood off to the side, and jumped out when I opened the door yelling, "Trick-or-Treat!" Followed closely by the toddler who stood for about a minute looking at the bowl of candy going, "Um, um, um..." And finally, there was the toddler who held his cup in one hand and candy bowl in the other, but switched to holding both in one hand so he could reach for his own candy. He also came with the adult in the car yelling for him to get a lot of candy, and to bring some for him too.
This is our first Halloween in the house, and we don't know a lot of people, so we weren't expecting many people to come, but they surprised us. Micah enjoyed opening the door for everybody, and I thought he was going to go with a few people. He greeted all but the very first trick-or-treaters in his pajamas. They were cute though.
Earlier today, he helped me cook. Mostly, he played in my pot cabinet. He also used the wooden spoon to drum on them. He is so much fun to be around.

Whooo's Got Treats?
We had great plans for Micah's first Halloween costume. Unfortunately, they did not come to fruition. Mostly my fault. He was going to be SuperMicah, complete with cape. I doubt seriously if he would keep a mask on, so I wasn't going to bother with making one. My sewing machine is currently in South Carolina, and has been for close to two months. So much for that idea.
In other news, Micah got some new clothes for the cool weather. Some from us, and some from his auntie. His auntie also bought him a puzzle that makes animal noises. Hopefully we can keep up with all the pieces.

Oh. Hi! We're Still Here!
I haven't blogged in a week. Not because I have been so busy, but mostly because nothing has been going on. Micah and I have spent most mornings in our pajamas. We haven't really gone anywhere or done anything. Except Wednesday, when my cousin and I took our babies to the mall and out to lunch. That's it. But Micah got more mail from his Mimi.
She sent him a few outfits. Here's my cutie modeling one of them.
Sadly, Micah has picked up a cold. His little nose is running. Friday night, he couldn't sleep because of the congestion. We have his vaporizer with Vick's going throughout the night, and we're using saline drops to try to clear up the congestion. Hopefully he feels better soon.

Happy Birthday!
I would like to wish a happy birthday to my great-grandmother, Mrs. Agnes W. S. S. She is 96 years old today, and still just as feisty as ever. Love you grandma.

Micah's Got Mail!
Micah got a package in the mail from his MiMi. He did some investigating before he allowed me to open it.
He is not showing much interest in walking. He occasionally will walk behind his walker, and he cruises the furniture. He will not stand alone, and his in no way attempting to take steps alone. As a matter of fact, he must be holding on to you with both hands to take steps. The baby that I just knew would be an early walker just doesn't look like he's interested in walking at all. And the kicker is that he is on the floor all the time. We typically only carry him up and down the stairs, and sometimes he climbs the stairs on his own. Oh well. In his own time.
Unfortunately, the shoes don't fit Micah's fat feet, so they have to be returned.

Sippy Cup Success!
Micah has really taken to his sippy cup. So much so, that his bottles have all mysteriously disappeared. The kicker is that the sippy cup that he finally accepted are the very first sippy cups that I bought and offered to him. I've tried two other types since then, and finally tried these again. I refused to buy anymore, feeling like I was wasting money. I'm glad I followed my instinct. In addition to his bottles disappearing, his pacifiers have gone missing as well. He never was one to suck a pacifier as a soother. He preferred his fingers, if anything at all. I worried about him becoming a thumb sucker for a while there. Thankfully, he did not. I feel like my baby is getting to be a big boy. Soon he'll be toddling around, and I'm not even close to ready for that. I realized today that Micah can squat standing on both feet, without holding on to anything. But he still refuses to even try to stand alone without holding on to something with both hands when he's playing attention. He sometimes stands without holding on when he's playing with the toys on his bouncer, but only when he's concentrating on what he's doing. If he's not concentrating on something else, he always refuses to try to stand alone. He also is learning to steer his walker, which he prefers to push around than to ride in it. A part of me wishes that he would just go ahead and let go. Most of me wants him to stay a baby as long as possible. I know that's not possible, but he's growing up absolutely too fast.
With Micah growing so fast, I'm looking forward to all of the new additions in the making in our family. Not our own! My sister, Auntie Angel, is having her first child, a baby boy. Mimi only has grandsons so far. We’re expecting him at the end of January, but he’s been acting up. We’ve already sent him a message to behave himself. He knows that he’s supposed to stay put until it’s time for him to come. Hopefully, he listens. Mikey’s aunt is also expecting twins soon, and we can’t wait to meet them. Congratulations to the expecting mommies! We can’t wait!

Micah @ 11 Months Old
Micah is eleven months old. And this post is a few days late. He is learning something new all the time. It has been amazing to watch him grow and learn this past month. I am in awe of him. I love him a little more each day, even when he’s running me ragged. At eleven months, Micah…
… weighs 22 pounds, according to our home scale.
… is still wearing size 12-18 months clothes, and
size 3 diapers.
… is a crawling machine. He’s very fast. A little too fast. He is also a stair climbing master. He’s pretty fast at that too. He still refuses to take any steps without
holding on to you with both hands.
Actually, he won’t even attempt to stand without assistance.
… is making all sorts of sounds. With the exception of mama, dada, and baba, nothing sounds like words yet. And I don’t think he associates baba with his bottle. It’s just a sound he makes.
… makes all sorts of sounds with his mouth now
too. He blows raspberries. He pops his mouth. He clicks.
It’s really something to witness.
He also makes a fish face from time to time. I have no idea where that one came from. He
imitates sounds, but only if and when he wants to. So far, he imitates Mikey very well when he
calls me by name (instead of calling me Mommy).
He will not, however, imitate me when I say words. (Like car, dog, etc.)
… has six teeth.
Two teeth on the top, and four on the bottom. With those teeth, he has decided that biting
is fun. We’re still trying to figure out
how to break him out of biting.
… has all of a sudden fell into an awesome sleep
pattern. He falls asleep between 8:00 pm
and 9:00 pm usually, and sleeps until between 5:00 am and 6:00 am. He has a bottle, and goes back to sleep until
between 9:00 am and 10:00 am. I love it.
… was on a restricted diet at his doctor’s
orders. The problem has cleared up, and
we are slowly introducing foods back into his diet. He still loves to eat. That definitely has not changed.
… has finally decided to drink from a sippy cup. I randomly decided to try again Monday night, and he didn't immediately throw it away. He only took a few sips, but that was better than before. Yesterday, I gave it to him, and he drank from his sippy cup with no problem. He didn't worry about his bottle, and I didn't offer it. I had already said that Micah might as well go ahead and accept it. Even if he hadn't taken the cup this time, when his first birthday had rolled around, his
bottles were disappearing, either way.
… is working on climbing up onto the couch. He’s still a little too short, but it’s funny
to watch him pulling with his arms and scrambling with his feet. He has figured a way to get up though. He uses his daddy as a step stool. Whenever Mikey sits on the floor with Micah,
he steps on him, and climbs up onto the couch (or coffee table).
… is fast approaching one year old. We are gearing up for his first haircut, his
first birthday party, and his first trip out of the country. Things are looking a little exciting around
here.
… goes by the nicknames Gus-Gus, Micah Maine, Scoot, and
Sugar Bear.

Homemade Toys
Micah has several homemade toys. Usually they’re the result of a desperate attempt to entertain him or something that he finds interesting so I let him play with it. He has an old wipes box with strap fabric to pull out of it. He has an old soda bottle with dry macaroni noodles in it. He also has an old medicine bottle (with a child safety top) with coins in it. Most times, he prefers the homemade toys to the store bought ones. Typical baby. I have ideas for others. I just have to find the time, and gather the materials.

Teaching Myself to Braid
I have been teaching myself to braid Micah’s
hair. We have about a month before his
first haircut, and managing his hair is a job.
Leaving it all out in an afro requires daily (usually multiple times a
day) combing to keep it from becoming tangled and a matted down mess. Catching it in lots of pigtails works. It is time consuming and usually takes quite
a bit of time to complete. Micah tends
to fight having his hair done, even when he’s asleep, but especially when he is
awake. Braiding is much the same. We fight, we take a break – wash, rinse,
repeat. The difference between pigtails
and braids, however, is other people’s perception of Micah as a girl (pigtails)
or as a boy (braids).
Most people see his sweet, chubby face, regardless
of what he’s wearing, and call him a beautiful baby girl. Sometimes I laugh and correct them. Sometimes, I find myself becoming annoyed. I know that most people just see a cute baby,
and try to offer a compliment. I also
know that most people don’t pay attention to details, and just call him
whatever comes to mind first. Learning
to braid now will be good practice for if we someday have a baby girl.
