Twenty-Eight Weeks

Memorial Day 2011

Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May. It commemorates U.S. soldiers who died while in the military service. At first it's purpose was to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War. It was extended after World War I to honor Americans who have died in all wars.  While my family has not lost our soldiers, I do want to honor my brother and sister, who have both made the decision to serve our country.
Pictures taken from their FaceBooks.
What did you do this Memorial Day?

Mornings Around Here...

Micah has been sleeping in his crib, lately. It is for my sanity. He has been learning to fight sleep very well, and that means he has to talk to me and kiss me if he's in bed with me. So he sleeps in his own bed, so that I can get some rest.  In the morning, he usually wakes up happy, smiling, and talking. This morning his little head popped up as I was preparing for work. This is what I saw...

It'll soon be time for us to lower his mattress.

On another note, Mikey and I are going away this weekend, and it'll be the first time I'm away from Micah for more than one night.  I hope I can do it.  And just for kicks.

New Tricks

Micah has learned a new trick. He spent today and yesterday blowing bubbles.  I caught him on video this afternoon.  He has also learned how to fight sleep very well.  I learned this last night when he kept me awake for quite a few hours past my bedtime.

Here's another new thing. He bites his bottom lip.

His days are spent practicing.  He practices sitting unsupported.  He practices rolling over.  He also practices creeping, though it's more of an army crawl since he hasn't quite gotten up on to his knees yet.  He's good at going backwards, but he's working on forward motion.  This is such a fun age, and I'm looking forward to what's new with Micah everyday when I get home from work.  I'm really looking forward to summer break, so that I can spend more time with him.  Just a few more weeks.  Until next time...

Twenty-Seven Weeks Old

Micah is twenty-seven weeks old today.  He is such a ham.  He has started humming to himself, and rocking.  He also danced with me today.  He loves to be able to see what's going on around him.  He sometimes makes me afraid that he's going to throw himself out of my arms trying to see something that's happening around us.  This morning, he went with me to work, on his way to grandma's house.  He was a hit.  He smiled, and talked.  Everyone thought he was the cutest thing.  He is doing much better with sitting unsupported.  We still surround him with pillows, though, just in case.

He Who Talks to Feet

Micah is finding his feet.  They haven't made it to his mouth yet, but he sure does have some interesting conversations with them.

Making Progress

We are making some progress in the house.  Though we still have quite a way to go.  I thought I would share a few of the improvements we've made so far.

The Kitchen
The cabinets, doors, and molding have been painted the same shade of white.  The appliances have been installed.  We're still looking for knobs for the cabinets and drawers, but I refuse to put those other ones back on.

 The Laundry Room

The washer and dryer have been installed.  We still have to installed cabinets, and I want to paint.  Overall, I like my little laundromat.

First Guest Room

Wal-Mart's Deep Stream

Mikey's Man Cave

Olympic's Knight's Armor
Second Guest Room

Glidden's Dolphin Grey
 Nursery

Valspar's Adrift
 Master Bedroom

Valspar's Voyage

The colors shown in the pictures are not the way they actually look.  I was in a hurry, and these are nowhere near good pictures.  So basically, the house is in shambles, but it looks better than it did the day before.  We'll keep making progress, and soon our house will be our home.

Twenty-Six Weeks Old

Micah had his six month well baby check-up.  He is growing and developing well.  During the visit, Micah's doctor pulled out his stethoscope to check his heart and lungs.  Micah grabbed the stethoscope, and started swinging it.  The doctor looked at me like he was not expecting that.  Micah did the same thing when he checked his ears.  Besides the shots, Micah had a good doctor's visit.

Weekly Photo Review

Micah @ 6 Months

Micah is six months old today, and he has changed so much in the past month.  His little personality is bursting through. I cannot believe my baby has been here half of a year.  The next thing you know we'll be celebrating his first birthday.

At six months old, Micah...

... weighs in at 17 pounds, 14 ounces, and is 26.25 inches long.

... wears size 6-9 months clothes, and sometimes a size 12 month.  He still is in size 3 diapers.

... is able to roll from his tummy to his back.  He woke me up at around 4:30 am on Thursday.  When I went to check on him, he was on his back talking to the shadows.  He sleeps on his belly.  I was one surprised mama.

... is sitting up on his own.  He is usually in the middle of the bed or surrounded by pillows, but he can tripod.  He is even testing his strength by sitting up on his own, though he usually has to catch himself quickly or he falls over.

... is very observant.  When introduced to a new situation, setting, or person, he will sit quietly and watch everything.

... is such a clown.  He loves funny noises, and will make his own.  (He gets that from his mommy.)

... takes two naps a day.  Until recently, Micah was taking three naps a day, then slowly his second nap of the day got shorter and shorter, until it disappeared.  Occasionally he will take a very short nap in the afternoon, but that one is mostly gone.

... wakes up smiling and talking.  It is the cutest thing.  When Micah wakes up now, he lays in his crib and talks to his hands, the shadows, or his "friends" on his mobile.

... hustles backwards when on his belly.

... has discovered his feet when he's on his back.  They haven't made it to his mouth (yet), but I'm waiting on it.

... loves to jump.  When you stand him in your lap, he waves his arms and bends his knees to get you to jump him up and down.

... is still waiting on those teeth to come in.  He does have a teether now though.  He still enjoys chewing on his fingers, bibs, and pacifier.

... is now eating grits.  I may need a wheel barrel to move him around.  He has also graduated to stage 2 jar food.

... is starting to have temper tantrums.  He falls out if he can't have his way. He cries if he sees you, and wants you to hold him, but you walk by him.

... goes by the nicknames Toot, Gus-Gus, Chubba-Chub, MicahMan, and Toulouse.
